APPLICATIONS & WELDING
Copper has unique electrical conductivity and thermal properties, but also oxidation and atmospheric corrosion resistance. Copper is very malleable and easy to work metal but will require some precautions when welding :
- Preheat : it will be an essential step in order to insure a good fusion and to minimize hot cracking.
- Direction of the arc : it is important to direct it in the fusion pool to avoid porosities and loss of properties for copper alloys with their low sublimation temperature (transition from solid to gas state).
- Pickling : some copper alloys have tenacious oxides impacting the weldability which will require a removal
