Cast Iron

APPLICATIONS & WELDING

With their iron-carbon matrix like steels, cast irons find their distinction in a carbon content superior to 2% and an important silicium content (1-3%). This chemistry dictates the resulting microstructure and will allow to classify the cast irons.

Not all cast irons can be welded. Those that are weldable will require some special precautions during the operation :

  • The choice of the process and the welding method
  • The choice of the filler metal must be well thought to adapt it to each case of joining or reparation
  • But also the welding procedure
