Copper / Bronze

Pure copper is used only for applications that require its very high thermal and electrical conductivity. This metal also exhibits superior ductility and resistance to oxidation and atmospheric corrosion. However, copper is extensively used in the form of alloys, mainly bronzes, brasses, cupronickels, and nickel silvers.

Copper and its alloys are readily weldable with arc welding processes, with the exception of alloys containing high levels of zinc or lead. This is due to the fact that these elements leads to porosity and internal cracking. For welding these alloys, some special measures must be taken, such as choosing the appropriate welding process, filler metal, and welding technique.
